En el día de ayer Interactive Brokers procedió a devolver en su totalidad la retención en el origen (15%) que se había aplicado a los dividendos trimestrales de QCOM durante el 2017 (fechas: 22/03 - 21/06 - 20/09 - 15/12).

Solo tengo acciones de QCOM desde enero del 2017 así que desconozco si esta práctica es ya algo habitual de años anteriores. ¿Alguien intuye el motivo de este inesperado “aguinaldo”? ¿estamos ante una situación parecida a la de PM cuya mayor parte de ingresos provienen del extranjero (80/20) y realiza una tasación diferente?

Y he aquí la explicación…ya podéis ir reclamándole el 15% al broker de turno si no rectifica de motu propio

“Pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 6045B, Qualcomm has made the preliminary determination that the cash distributions (i.e., dividends) paid to stockholders on March 22, 2017, June 21, 2017, September 20, 2017 and December 15, 2017 represent non-taxable returns of capital to stockholders . This determination is based upon an estimate of earnings and profits and any distribution a stockholder may have received on those dates should be treated as a return of capital . Accordingly, we will reflect this treatment on our IRS Form 1099-DIV issued no later than January 31, 2018, and an IRS Form 8937 will be published on our website here no later than January 31, 2018”

Ojito que QCOM vuelve a recular, al menos parcialmente. El dividendo abonado el 15 de Diciembre del 2017 vuelve a tener retención en el origen del 15%. IB hizo la regularización ayer mismo
